What is pick-a-path?
Choose Your Own Adventure, or Secret Path Books is a series of children's gamebooks where each story is written from a second-person point of view, with the reader assuming the role of the protagonist and making choices that determine the main character's actions and the plot's outcome.
My original Pick-a-path:
The
evil pumpkin
Once upon a time, in a faraway
land, there were some pumpkins lying on the ground inside a housebarn. Suddenly,
one of them starts to vibrate very hard. The animals near the fence get scared and
run to the back wall. While the pumpkin is vibrating, some human body parts
starts to grow in its shell. Then, the pumpkin gets conscious. You realize it
is you. You do not know where you are. After some attempts, you stand up and
start to walk out of the housebarn.
Where do you choose to go?
A. Towards the
animals.
B. Towards the
farmer’s house.
C. Towards the
front gate.
A. A dog bit
you, you are torn apart and you die.
B. You walk
towards the farmer’s house and you find a lamp. Using the lamp, you get inside
the house. You see two ways to go, which one do you choose:
B.1: Upstairs.
B.2: To the basement.
B.1: You walk upstairs
and find the farmer’s bedroom. He wakes up when you open the door. When you see
him, you feel a killing desire. You jump towards him and kill him with your
toothed mouth. Without noticing, behind your back, the farmer’s wife smashes
you with a baseball bat.
B.2: You open the
basement’s door and go downstairs. When you reach the floor, you see a crack on
the wall. You get close. The crack gets bigger and you are drowned into it. You
come back to the Underworld.
C. You walk out of the front gate and go towards the
road. After some time walking, you reach a waterfall. A ghost appears in front
of you. The ghost says: - Oh, look who came back from the Underworld. Are you
ready to kill some people?
C.1: Yes, I am.
C.2: No, I am not.
C.1: The ghost says: -
Our father sent you to this world to complete a mission, you must kill a
traitor from the Underworld. He is behind that waterfall. Do you accept it?
C.1.1: Yes, I do.
C.1.2: No, I do not.
C.2: The ghost says: -
Then, you must come back to the Underworld. The ghost touches you and you
disappear.
C.1.2: The ghost says: -
I will wait here until you do it.
You go through the waterfall
and see a scarecrow standing on the rocks, the scarecrow stands up and
says: - I was sure our father was going
to send someone.
Before the scarecrow says
something else you kill him with your toothed mouth.
Then, you come back to the
ghost and say: - It is done.
The ghost says: - Let’s go
back to the Underworld.
He touches you and you both disappear.
